Minister of Children Job Description

 

Principal Function:

The Minister of Children is responsible for the Christian education of children through planning, conducting, and evaluating programs that encourage spiritual growth in children from preschool through sixth grade.

 

Supervision:

The Pastor and Deacons
 

Qualifications:

Clear testimony of a Christian life and belief in Jesus Christ

Love for children and understanding of their development

Demonstration of a high level of personal moral integrity

Acceptance of children with disabilities and cultural differences

Successful completion of background check/drug testing

 

Desired Qualities:

Four year college degree preferred

Good communication skills

Flexibility, energetic, and organization skills

CDL preferred

 

Responsibilities:

1.  Work with Pastor, Deacons, and Nominating Committee to develop a Children's Council, and enlist needed adults to assist/serve as leaders in the Children's Ministry.

 

2.  Work with the Children's Council to plan, promote, implement, oversee, and evaluate a comprehensive program of Christian education and ministry for children.

 

(Currently, Mt. Sinai participates in the following children's programs/activities/ministries:

Sunday School, Children's Church, Children's Story, Children's Choir, Mission Friends, RA's, GA's, Summer Camp, RA Camp, GA Camp, VBS, Bible Drill, mission projects, outreach visits/activities, fellowships).

 

3.  Be available to counsel, disciple, and pray with children regarding spiritual matters.

 

4.  Minister (i.e., assume a special "shepherding" role) to children as they deal with difficult issues related to home, school, friendships, and sickness.

 

5.  Encourage and strengthen relationships between the Church and Parents, including keeping families informed and involved in children's activities.

 

6.  Provide information to the Church Secretary for weekly/monthly communication (i.e., bulletins, newsletters, etc.)  as necessary to keep church and parents informed of children's activities.

 

7.  Participate in state, regional, and convention training opportunities that enhance teaching methods and self-improvement in children's education.

 

8.  Serve on the Church Council.

 

9.  Prepare annual Children's Budget.

 

10.  Support Church-wide programs and participate in weekly services. 

 

 

 

Work Schedule:

40 weeks (September-May), 15 hours/week

12 weeks (June-August), 20 hours/week
